Belouro Reg'd (est. 1995) . is located near the shores of Lake Simcoe between Barrie and Orillia Ontario. We have been involved with Portuguese Water Dogs since 1994, (past Director for the breed club: PWDCC & served on the CKC Breed Standards Revision committee 1998). 
Puppies are raised in our home where other family members and friends help to socialize them and temperament tested to ensure proper placement. Puppies learn about the outdoors and the water as soon as the weather permits. They are introduced to the waters of Georgian Bay as we are avid boaters and spend many days cruising the waters. The dogs accompany us on all excursions and become involved in various canine water activities.

As with any breed, PWDs are not exempt from hereditary health problems. When somebody purchases a puppy it becomes an important part of the family. Puppies are whelped from a dam and sire that have been certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) to be free of hip disorders. They are also DNA tested for PRCD PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), this guarantees they will produce PRA free puppies. Our selective breeding standards have eliminated the need to test our puppies for GM-1 Gangliosidosis (storage disease), which is a nervous system disorder.  All breeding PWDs are GM-1 tested prior to breeding. As well, Juvenile Dilated Cardiomyopothy (JDCM) which is a fatal heart condition that is prevented by not breeding to carriers of the gene. Belouro® PWDs have been JDCM tested and are not carriers of the JDCM gene.  Both sire and dam are also certified by the Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) annually and are free from eye disorders. All puppies are also CERF Certified. Our focus is with optimal health, temperament and structure.

Puppies are sold under a contract which covers health and ownership. Our main interest is in the proper placement of the puppy to a permanent loving home. All pet puppies are sold CKC registered. We participate in the PWDCA sponsored PWD Health and Litter Database to share information with other breeders. All of our dogs are individually tested before breeding.
